Choosing a Broadway Musical to See While Visiting New York

So, you’re going to go to New York and while you’re there you think you want to see a Broadway play. And at that point you probably feel like a lot of your decisions have been made about what you’ll do with your summer vacation and you might be inclined to sit back and relax. Well, that would not be advised at this point because you still have plenty of decisions to make. First of all, you not only need to decide what play you want to attend but first you have to decide what type of show you’re going to see and make a list of priorities in the features you are most attracted to.
For instance, some people want to see the latest hit musical regardless of where it’s playing or who is in it. That makes that decision a great deal easier for them, but not everyone, in fact probably most people don’t, have it that easy. But a lot of people can at least say they want to see a musical while they are there. That helps, a little. Only about seventy five percent, or more, of Broadway’s shows are musicals. But you can narrow it down from there and you can begin by deciding what type of musical you’d like to see.
There are revivals of previous popular hits such as A Little Night Music and West Side Story and then there are shows that deal with the lives of great people or the careers of top musicians and bands, such as the Million Dollar Quartet and the Jersey Boys. Some musicals are specifically centered on children’s interests, though the best ones such as the Lion King will also be entertaining for adults. Another popular musical genre is the recently established adaptation of popular animated films, particularly those from Disney. And these are generally children themed and major fantastic spectacles. And finally there are people whose main interest when choosing a Broadway play is selecting the show with the biggest stars. This can be a complicated task when Broadway is frequently full of stars from Hollywood. Sean Hayes, Catherine Zeta-Jones , Kristen Chenoweth and Angela Lansbury are just a few of the big names that are currently onstage in New York.
