Football may be the Dallas area’s primary sport, but it’s not the only sport in the Dallas Fort Worth metropolitan area. A recent influx of people moving and visiting the Dallas area has brought a demand for more hockey to the region. This demand has been answered by an increasing number of hockey teams and events often having school teams where ice rinks are available. In the case of Allen, TX they built a new event center specifically for a place their new team the Allen Americans to use.
The Allen Americans boast one of the best records in the Central Hockey League. This minor league team has been a success this season on the ice .The team calls the brand new Allen Event Center home. The Allan Americans are owned by a company with a strong local presence, Top Shelf, LLC which is run by Douglas H. Miller and Steve Duchesne, a former NHL star. Top Shelf, LLC in affiliation with the Central Hockey League team in Allen and the National Hockey League’s Dallas Stars plans to develop players for the National Hockey League team.
Right now the Americans are playing the Bucks for their first series of the 2010 Ray Miron President’s Cup Playoffs, after becoming the second team in the CHL to secure a playoff spot this year. Allen currently has the home ice advantage as they face off against the Laredo Bucks this week in the Conference Semi-Finals.
If you’re a Hockey fan living in the region it seems Allan, Texas is the place to be this season. The stadium is promoting the home team by encouraging the fans of the Allen Americans to wear red in an attempt to “red out” the stands. Even local businesses got into the spirit of things, the Courtyard Marriott offered free red foam fingers to the first 1,500 fans at the first two home game. While in the area for the game you should stay at one of the Allendale hotels , less than 5 miles away from the event center.
