Some of the most obvious and popular activities and attractions for tourists who visit the great city of New York include visits to the Empire State Building, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty as well as many other icon buildings and architectural landmarks of the city. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Times Square, and Central Park are also common city landmarks and attractions. Of course there is also the legendary theatre scene of the Great White Way, also known as Broadway. Even the neighborhoods and the restaurants, bars and shops in them are frequently famous throughout not only the country but the rest of the world. Indeed, it can be argued that most of New York City is a landmark or major US symbolic icon. Even the traffic is famous.
It is only natural to follow that with all the dynamics, historic significance, culture and passion of this largest of American cities that there is also a large population of ghosts. They are much more difficult to count classify with the census studies, but they are just as attractive and enticing to some of the guests in four star New York hotels as are the major stars who are often seen on the NY streets and stages. And just like stargazing, catching glimpses of New York’s ghost population can happen randomly on the streets and in establishments, but if you want to be guaranteed a ghoulish evening, you’ll have to buy a ticket.
New York has many city tours with various thematic orientations. The city bus tours are famous and introduce many visitors to the history of New York and a discussion of some of the more famous buildings and landmarks. The various ghost oriented tours do much the same thing, however they have a specific focus on the unexplained and legendary aspect of history. And of course New York has some of the most famous haunting stories you can find. Just ask any of the theatre ghosts who are there waiting for their big break.
