Synchronicity in New York
Nov 12th, 2009 by sophie smith
I had a hangover, but I got up from my very comfortable and quiet bed, and realized that it was noon! Here I am in New York and I’m wasting my time sleeping off a hangover. I managed to put myself together within 45 minutes and headed outside. I started walking across the Williamsburg bridge and on the other side, I saw a restaurant with this huge sign saying ‘Get your hung-over self over here and treat yourself to some ham and eggs!’ Which is exactly what I did!
From there, I made my way to Central Park and did what I always do, chillout on the grass. I chilled in the morning sun for about an hour. I just love this part of coming to New York. No matter which of the five star New York hotels I’m staying at, I always make it to Central Park and lay in the grass. I got myself up and walked on down to 53rd to check out what’s new at MoMa. I had a free pass this time, so I took full advantage. I fell in love with the museum. They have an amazing collection. I really appreciated there industrial design section, being an industrial designer myself.
After MoMa, I headed down to see Ground Zero to see if anything new was happening there. No matter how many times I see it, I always start to cry. It was great, though, to see all the new rebuilding underway. That uplifted me.
After dinner, around 7pm, I went back to my hotel with the intentions of getting a good nights sleep. My flight out was pretty early in the morning, but I got detoured on my way back to my hotel, I ran into a long time friend, he just happened to be on the same subway car as me. Amazing who you can just run into in New York. This happens to me all the time, no matter where I am in the world. So, I’m not sure why I was amazed this time, but I never fails to astound me. We got off the subway and headed to the nearest bar to have a few drinks and catch up. I ended up making it back to my hotel at 2am! No sleep for the stupid!
